Feeding the rapidly increasing global population amid the climate crisis requires the speed and accuracy that technology provides.
Agricultural technology, or agri-tech for short, began with the industrial revolution, where machines were used to increase crop production and animal yield. Over the years, it has remained one of the greatest advancements in human history as an excellent development to cushion the teeming global population expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050. Agricultural technology involves the direct application of machines, Artificial Intelligence, and all other forms of technology to agriculture and its allied fields for higher sustainability.
Small and marginal farmers in India face a myriad of wicked challenges, as they do elsewhere in the world, that keeps them on the cusp of poverty. With close to 100 million farmers spread throughout the world’s 7th largest country, it’s critical that their issues are addressed in a systematic, and thoughtful way.
There are 500 million smallholder farmers worldwide who produce up to 70% of the world’s food. Yet, globally we’re seeing a decline in the overall number of farmers.
Over the last 2 years, Jiva has run over a hundred demo plots to test the efficacy of our agronomy advisory. The results have been staggering; we’ve seen some farmers increase their yield by 200%.
Kartini Day - The 21st of April 1879 is a momentous day in Indonesian history, as it marks the birth of Raden Ajeng Kartini; a pioneer of women’s emancipation, equal opportunity, and access to education.
Jiva launched in 2021 with a vision to empower smallholder farmers around the world. Through hundreds of hours of in-field interviews, home visits, and user testing sessions, we developed a unique agriservices platform designed to meet the needs of smallholder farmers around the world. Understanding agronomic processes, the complex agricultural supply chain and the pain points of smallholder farmers was critical in designing a system that could provide our users with low-cost advances, high quality supplies, fair prices and world-class agronomic advice. Today, Jiva empowers farmers across Indonesia by increasing yields and profits, as well as by giving farmers a voice in this big, complex and often unjust industry.
Last year, Jiva grew from a handful of passionate people in Singapore to a 200+ employee organization spanning Singapore, Jakarta, Makassar, East Java, Bengaluru, and beyond. Together, we have reached over 60,000 farmers in our debut market, South Sulawesi.
To build an ecosystem founded on innovation dedicated to improving the lives of farmers by providing access to the best possible advice, products and trade services.
